OVERVIEW : Adult education is the practice of teaching and educating adults. The adult education teachers instruct adults and youths who are out of school in basic skills such as reading, writing and speaking English.

JOB DESCRIPTION : Adult education teachers evaluate student's strengths and weaknesses. They plan and teach lessons to help students gain knowledge and skills so that they can get their GED or learn to speak English. Adult education teachers also emphasize skills that will help their students to get a job by making them learn English words and phrases used in the work place.

JOB OUTLOOK : According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of adult education teachers is expected to grow by 15 percent from 2010 to 2020, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Growth is expected from continued immigration to the United States and demand for adult education programs.
