Computer Hardware Engineering

OVERVIEW : Computer hardware engineers are the ones who are responsible for the hardware i.e. the physical aspects of computers and they oversee the design, development, testing and production of various computer hardware such as memory chips, circuit boards, computer systems and related equipment such as printers, network ports, central processing unit (CPU), etc.

Computer Hardware Engineering
JOB DESCRIPTION : Computer hardware engineers are responsible for the rapid strides which we are witnessing in computer technology along with software engineers. While the software engineers develop the necessary software and interface for any computer system to work, computer hardware engineers are the ones who are responsible for the development, design, test and implementation of various physical aspects of computers such as circuit boards, memory chips, mother boards, etc. Computer hardware engineer should be creative as well as analytical, a problem solver with an eye for detail. They should have a good talent of working in teams since they usually work in groups. They also should be good in logic and have good communication skills.

JOB OUTLOOK : Employment of computer hardware engineers is expected to increase 9 percent from 2010 to 2020, slower than the average for all occupations. A limited number of engineers will be needed to meet the demand for new computer hardware because more of the innovation in computers now takes place with software than with hardware. Although foreign competition in computer equipment will negatively affect the growth of this occupation, this will be partially offset by the development of computer chips that are embedded in other electronics such as household appliances, medical devices, or automobiles.

OVERVIEWCeramic sciences and engineering involves the study of non metallic, inorganic materials which are processed at high temperatures. These include materials like porcelain, glass, brick and cement. Ceramic engineering includes the processes of purification of raw materials, the study and production of chemical compounds concerned, their formation into components and the study of their structure, composition and properties. As ceramics are known for its heat resistant nature, those are used in many applications in wide range of industries such as mining, aerospace, medicine, refinery, food and chemical industries, packaging science, electronics, industrial, transmission of electricity, etc.
Ceramic Sciences and Engineering
JOB DESCRIPTION : Ceramic engineers are involved in developing of new ceramic materials as well as developing new methods and equipments for their processing. Ceramic engineers work with a variety of products ranging from glassware and electronic components to nuclear reactors and linings for blast furnaces and jet engines. Many ceramic engineers are working in the industry and also are employed in various research and development projects. One of the uses of ceramic materials is that they are used in the lining of the spacecraft that have to undergo high temperatures while leaving or entering the earth's atmosphere.

The linings of ceramic materials protect the spacecraft from damage due to high temperature since they are heat resistant. One other application of ceramic materials is in the production of superconductors, and in nuclear reactors. The field of ceramic engineering has also its application in military where in ceramics such as alumina, boron carbide and silicon carbide have been used in bulletproof vests to repel large-caliber rifle fire. Recently, there have been advances in ceramics which include bio-ceramics, such as dental implants and synthetic bones.

JOB OUTLOOK : To enter into the field of ceramic engineering, you need at least a bachelor's degree which may take four to five years to complete. Generally, jobs in research and development require a master's degree at least. Job prospects in ceramic sciences and engineering is good since it is an upcoming field.

SALARY : $50,982 for bachelor's as per various industry sources.

DEGREES OFFEREDAssociates  -Bachelor's  -Master's  -Doctorate/PhD  -Certificate

EXPECTED JOB GROWTH : As ceramic engineering is an emerging field where new technological developments are reported at a regular interval, there is good growth in this field. Annual median earning of a ceramic engineer with an undergraduate degree in 2005 was $50,982.

Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering - Aerospace Engineer, Engineerig Schools,Online Jobs, Engineering Degree

OVERVIEW : Aerospace engineering is associated with the building of modern day aircrafts (civilian and fighter) and as well was design and development of spacecrafts and missiles. The science behind the design and development of flying machines is what aerospace engineering deals with. It consists of two main branches, aeronautic engineering, which deals with science, design and development of aircraft operating within the earth's atmosphere. Astronautical engineering deals with the science, design and development of spacecrafts, which operate outside the earth’s atmosphere. An aerospace engineer deals with concepts such as aerodynamics, airfoil, control spaces, lift, and drag of flying machines. It is an extremely interesting branch dealing with the making of aircraft, rockets, flying craft and spacecraft.
Aeronautical Engineering
JOB DESCRIPTION : As an aerospace engineer, you will be designing and developing various types of flying machines such as civilian aircrafts, fighter jets, choppers, rockets, missiles and spacecrafts. Subjects like structural design, guidance, navigation, control, instrumentation and communication, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, celestial mechanics, propulsion, acoustics and many more subjects are taught in aerospace engineering.
The great strides in aerospace engineering has enabled us to produce spacecrafts which encircle the earth in the space and which undergo huge amounts of technological upgrades and require expertise from many fields. The rockets which are used to put satellites into orbits or the missiles which are designed to carry heavy payloads and have inter-continental ranges are all products of aerospace engineering.

JOB OUTLOOK : The field of aerospace engineering is a highly specialized field. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, although the number of degrees granted in aerospace engineering has begun to increase after many years of declines, new graduates continue to be needed to replace aerospace engineers who retire or leave the occupation for other reasons.
