UNESCO Institute for Education defined literacy as literacy arouses hopes, not only in society as a whole but also in the individual who is striving for fulfillment, happiness and personal benefit by learning how to read and write. Literacy... means far more than learning how to read and write... The aim is to transmit... knowledge and promote social participation. The published literacy rate of our country is 98%, but do you know the fact that functional illiteracy rates are growing in a higher rate. Functional illiteracy means, they have trouble with sufficient reading and writing skills. According to a news report published by USA TODAY, 32 million adults in our country, which means about one in seven of the population, cannot read.

Have you ever thought that what would be the consequences of illiteracy? It can affect the overall development and progress of a nation. Even the crime rates of the nation also increases. As reported by the U.S Department of Education, 60 percent of America's prison inmates are illiterate and 85% of all juvenile offenders have reading problems. It is said that situations forces an individual to commit crime.

In this context, you can be a helping hand to many people who wish to gain knowledge.
