Licensed Practical Nursing / Vocational Nursing

LPN/LVN is a practical nursing study program offered by the vocational/ technical schools or community / junior colleges. Most training programs are of 1 year duration. Those who complete the specified duration of training will be eligible for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX- PN). According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment opportunities of the Licensed Practical Nurses or Licensed Vocational Nurses are expected to increase by 22 percent from 2010-20 and they earned a median annual wage of $40,380 in May 2010. The LPN to RN program serves as a bridge for the Licensed Vocational Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses to advance their career. This program will make LPNs or LVNs to be eligible for appearing in the NCLEX- RN tests. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, Registered nurses (RN) held the largest section of jobs in the health care industry in 2008. With an expected job growth of 26 percent from 2010-20, they earned a median annual wage of $64,690 in May 2010. The bridge programs of LPN to RN are becoming quite popular as they are thought to be less expensive and are of shorter duration.
